Edith Ruelas Martinez
Edith was born in Crucero de Sta. Ma Jalisco, Mexico. Edith came to the United States when she was six years old with her family. Through her own immigration journey, she witnessed the sacrifices and struggles involved in moving to another country. Leaving her hometown, friends, and family behind made a strong and difficult impact on her life. Edith has used her immigration experience to motivate her to be a role model for her family’s future generations.
During her last year of high school, Edith attended a nursing program where she interned at a low-income hospital and worked with immigrant patients. Seeing the struggle and fear these patients experienced, she felt that there was more she can do to help the immigrant community. Edith now plans to pursue her education in immigration and immigrant rights. Edith is fluent in Spanish.
